About the Artist
I am a potter and ceramics educator based in Santa Barbara, California. With bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Studio Art from Connecticut College, my interdisciplinary background informs a practice balanced between structure and intuition.
I create primarily functional vessels, including mugs, bowls, plates, and vases. These objects are meant to be held, used, and returned to daily. I am drawn to the intimacy of functional ceramics– the way a cup fits in the hand or a bowl settles on the table, becoming part of a lived rhythm. Utility is not a constraint but a way to make objects that feel natural and satisfying to use.
Alongside these hand-held forms, I make oversized jars, bowls, and vases. Working at a larger scale shifts the body’s relationship to the object, inviting movement and spatial awareness. Whether intimate or architectural, I aim for each piece to feel grounded, purposeful, and comfortable in its environment.
Living and working along the Santa Barbara coastline shapes my forms and surfaces. The curves of my vessels echo shoreline arcs and sea-worn stones, while my palette reflects coastal light, muted sands, marine blues, overcast grays, and the warmth of cliffs at sunset. I include quiet surface marks that hold personal memories, even if only I fully recognize them.
Through systems, repetition, and incremental variation, I balance precision and spontaneity, embracing both control and the unpredictability inherent in clay and fire.
